Gas units are much easier to install. electric units have huge power needs.

That depends entirely on where you live (up north, down south, propane, natural gas) it will be a very good investment. most of the homes which i have had to work on ask that same question. it is a tremendous cost saving to the home owner. i remodeled a guys house and he had the unit we installed outfitted with both electrical and propane backup. (i live in florida, hurricanes you know) it was a great idea.

Since electricity is not cheap in most of WA state I would go with the gas model. If your house does not have 200 amp electric service you can forget an electric model.

To answer your question simply. Most gas units have to be vented, is there a problem with venting ? Electric heaters can go just about any where as no venting is needed. I would say the gas will probably be cheaper and faster. I would look to buy the waterless tank that heats up the water as needed. Is this what you have in mind?
